Undissolved Detergent
Cause:
Undissolved detergent is often the result of detergent not being properly
dissolved before the wash.
In other cases, placing washing on the surface of a full machine before
adding detergent can cause air pockets to form under the washload.
The undissolved
detergent which remains in the air pockets is not dispersed by water
agitating in the wash load. Undissolved detergent is then distributed
through the
wash load.
Prevention:
Lumps of powdered detergent are more difficult to dissolve. To prevent
lumpiness, store your powdered detergents in a dry area to avoid moisture
pick-up. Add
detergent to the wash water and run your machine for a few minutes
before immersing the article to be washed. This will help ensure the
detergent
powder is properly
dissolved. It is an alternative to pre-mixing the detergent with water.
Alternatively use Dynamo or Cold Power Liquid for residue free results.
Using your Front Loader
- Use a detergent specially formulated for front loaders as this will
not over foam and damage your washing machine or laundry and ensure
your clothes are brilliantly clean
- Use Dynamo Matic Liquid or Concentrate Powder or Cold Power Matic
Concentrate Powder for best results.
To Minimise Shrinking
- Use cold or warm water
- Form knits, especially cottons back into shape
and lay them flat on towels to dry.
- Many knits and woven fabrics can
shrink when washed. Allow for this when buying. Also check the quality
of the item.
Successful Soaking
It is important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions
for correct dosage and procedures to obtain the best results.
A few hints
for successful soaking are given below for your
convenience:
- Dissolve the powder completely before adding
clothes. This eliminates an unsatisfactory blotchy finish.
- Always follow
the garment manufacturer’s instructions for special
and delicate fabrics and colours.
- Separate colours and
whites before soaking.
- Test for colour fastness as some colours are
fast in normal washing but run if soaked for a time, even in plain
water. Take
particular care with polyester
viscose, woollens and silk in this regard.
- Do not use
chlorine bleach with Sard Wonder Soaker or Sard Wonder Nappy.
- To avoid
possible discolouration of the garments, do not soak leather, metal
buttons or zippers for more than an hour.
- Never soak part of a garment
of fabric. For an even result, always soak the entire item.
- If the item
is colour fast, multi-coloured, or features embroidery or transfers,
do not soak.
Hand Washing
Hand washing is best for delicate items such as lace, lingerie,
wool, silk or very dark colours that may run.
When washing delicate
articles, use lukewarm or cold water. Dissolve ½ a
scoop of Cold Power Concentrate Powder in 5 litres of water then add the article
to be washed. Squeeze suds gently through the garment, taking care not to rub,
wring or agitate any more than necessary. Stubborn stains may be dislodged
by a gentle rub with Sard Wonder Soap before washing. Squeeze out, then rinse
well, using lukewarm or cold water. Use the same gentle treatment described
for the washing procedure.
You will achieve a soft finish by adding Cuddly fabric
softener to the final rinse. You can remove excess water after hand
washing with a light spin in
the washing machine, or by rolling up the articles in a dry towel. Do not
hand wring or tumble dry.
Turn your delicates inside out and hang dry
as quickly as possible, avoiding strong winds and direct sunlight.
Turn woollens and loosely woven or knitted
articles inside out, pull them into shape, and dry flat. Cool iron if necessary.
Sour
Odours
A sour odour on a finished wash load can arise if clothing is left
wet for long periods before hanging to dry - probably during wet weather.
If you soak, overnight is quite sufficient. If stains remain, wash the
article then dry. If necessary, re-soak the item. This applies also to
washed articles
ready for the line. If they are left standing for long periods of time,
re-rinse them before hanging.
